Watershed
Steward Program
The watershed steward program was developed to bring
watershed leadership education to Okanogan County. The program consisted
of many informational programs from, a 12 part series of education
classes in Omak and Twisp, to after school programs in Omak, Tonasket,
and Oroville, education seminars for Okanogan Cattlemen, and several
small landowner workshops.
The main goal behind the watershed steward program
was to bring awarness to the county about how our actions affect
our watersheds. Many factors affect our watersheds and subsequently
our water quality, from irrigation practices, to septic tank maintenance,
to garden pesticide use. WSU has many bulletins and informational
pamphlets on these topics including; landscaping with drought tolerant
plants, improving irrigation efficiency, repairing riparian areas
and many more. By going to WSU Extension Washington's
Water website you can obtain many bulletins and information
on factors affecting watersheds and water quality.
